SaveTrail riding in Amherst began in earnest in May 2016 when the OHRV ordinance prohibiting use on town trails was revised to exclude bicycles - which are of course not OHRVs. This left the decision up to the Conservation Commission to decide on permitted uses on a parcel by parcel basis. For town land, unless posted no bikes, it's rideable.
There are a few primary riding areas in town. The centerpiece for riding is the Fellowship of the Ring themed Haseltine, where early NEMBA chapter members build single track. Nearby, the Bicentennial Trail connects 3 major areas - Joe English Reservation, Betty Arnold Forest, and a collection of parcels referred to here as "Bicentennial South". The B-H Trail connects Bicentennial to Haseltine, so they are all connected without the need to ride on the road. In all, nearly 20 miles of connected trails. Other small areas include Lindabury Orchard, Caesar's Brook, Patch Hill, Converse Woods, Grater Road, Pond Parish/Converse Woods. Finally, the Grater Road trails/trailhead serves as a primary access/connection into an extensive network of the Grater Woods trails in Merrimack.
