As I started the ride from shadow bay road clockwise, I was excited to see the first 2 miles of the trail was cleared recently but only to the south shelter. A trail that normally take 3hrs on avg to ride, took me close to 5hrs due to hopping hundreds of trees and thousands of branches and debris in the trail. The trail is blocked at the N. campground, not accessible to continue. It's not worth attempting to ride the trail anytime soon, unless the USFS gets this place cleaned up. The first 1/3 or so is in forest, with the remainder is in a clearcut area The problem is that the clearcut part has become quite overgrown by now (June 11th), and either needs to be mowed / cut back, or just crossed off the list until late fall / winter. There are so just many better trails to ride this time of year. But if you do really want to ride it... you can see the path in front of you (6" - 18" wide) and it's not hard to follow. But you can't really see very far ahead, which limits speed for those of us that don't have it memorized. There are places where grass is taller than handlebars, plus a few thistles and wild blackberries for extra "spice". | Variable | view | |||
