SaveThe second biggest city in Greece, Thessaloniki is renowned for its frappe coffee, bougatsa pie and gyros food. If you are a mountain biker though it is better known for its easy trail access. The trails are a bit rough and undeveloped but the surrounding Seich Sou forest is located 3 km from the city center. There are 2 main entrances to the Seich Sou forest, one at the zoo and the other at Peraivou Bridge. The zoo entrance allows you to do most of your climbing in singletrack enjoying the shade of the trees in the hot Greek Summer.
If you have strong legs you could ride through Seich Sou all the way up to the hiking refuge at the top of Mount Hortiatis and you can do 70% of the ascend through singletrack. Hortiatis is home to many all mountain and DH trails for all skill levels. As the riding scene is not so developed trails are not groomed so expect natural gnar. Expect gnarly eating at the local gyros joint as well.
