This is a short training loop that is ideal for cross country training with minimal intersections with riders coming down off lift service. Deer Crest is bidirectional, but during lift operating hours, tends to become a DH trail with its smooth buff turns. On weekends, it is particularly difficult to ride up this trail without stopping, causing others to stop, or getting buzzed.
This route takes you up the Little Stick double track. It is a steep and boring climb, but provides a good warmup and shakeout of a group. It was traditionally used in the old Deer Valley Intermountain Cup races, and places you in a position to descend part of Deer Crest and Pipeline. You then climb up the easy but pedally Village and Gap trails to start over again.
For added mileage you can do the Snowtop bonus loop. This provides a central location at the Deer Crest gate to keep tracking of a large group of riders. The extends Snowtop loop can be skipped, or even the Gap loop can be cut near the gate for slower riders to catch up to the faster riders.
