10K Trail is one continuous bi-directional, multi-use trail that is split by its crossing of the Sandia Crest Road. True to its name, the 10K trail roughly tracks the 10,000’ elevation mark as it traverses from north to south. The northern portion of 10K is more heavily trafficked by hikers than the southern portion, and is a challenging, physical trail with several very steep, rooty, rocky climbs and descents. The trail is, however, quite wide and provides many line choices as it descends down towards the Wilderness boundary. At this point, 10K turns sharply upward towards its intersection with the Ellis Trail.
Multiple Trailheads, all official parking areas are paid ($3) but there are several pullouts along the road where one can avoid paying.
