Beam Run Trail provides an intermediate connection between the northern section of Black Bear to Spruce Run Trail, near the end of Burma Trail. This trail starts on Black Bear north of the starting point of Rocky Gap. A recently constructed stub connects Black Bear to Laurel Summit Road. It is typically wet along the near side of the road. A parking area for one or two vehicles is located on the opposite side of the road.
Beam Run Trail descends from the parking spot along a wider corridor that is poorly drained at the upper end. Although the trail may appear to continue straight as you pick up speed on the descent, it takes a sudden sharp left turn, onto narrower singletrack. The turn is not as difficult to see coming the other direction.
The rest of the trail is rocky, consisting mainly of rounded embedded boulders rather than the smaller more abrupt stones encountered in many of the rock gardens. Watch for alternate lines over several log piles placed along the side of the trail. Their positioning is typical of all but the expert trails at Laurel to avoid obstructing the trails for cross country skiing.
