Burch Mountain Road is a good early-season adventure because it is south-facing and melts out earlier than other places. The gate is typically closed in early spring so the climb is peaceful. The road is usually graded and in good shape but the grade touches double digits in some spots and only has a few flat stretches. A good destination about four miles from the pavement is the "Tree of Pain", an obvious solitary tree with great views. Beware of broken glass as this is a popular "let's hang out and shoot stuff" location.
Note: There used to be single track "Backdoor to No Funny" and "Homeward Bound" but it was on private property and the landowners have put up signage to keep people out. About a mile and half up is a double track to the right that takes you down into Ohme Gardens, beware the goat heads.
There is one new house about halfway up and quite a few driveways starting to pop up along the road.
After the Tree of Pain, you can keep climbing another mile to the radio towers where the road splits. To the left are the towers. To the right is another road that continues along the ridge a few miles to Eagle Rock with great views of Swakane and Nahahum Canyons.
