A Black rated option for the beginning of Shale Trail. Consists of a steep rock roll feature with a few line options to start, and then runs out into a loose, fast section of singletrack. Intermediate riders wanting to try this segment should walk up and down it a few times to scope out a line and follow the Pre-ride, Re-ride, Free-ride advice.

Access Info

Off of the SW corner of the Knox Mountain Drive summit loop, take Lookout Access to the east side of the Upper Apex Lookout platform. There is overlapping fencing with gaps at the trailhead to keep people from dropping in inadvertently.

Look before you leap. I've seen big dead branches a the bottom of the rider leftmost line. The last time it seemed they were placed as a booby trap
