This trail is best hiked or ridden south to north, from the TH at the Schnebly Hill parking lot. Be aware there are often other users on this trail, coming from both directions. Trail is generally rocky and winds through typical Sedona "brush" (e.g., manzanita, prickly pear, agave, etc.) From the beginning: Huckaby descends briefly from the TH, then climbs gently to traverse above Oak Creek for the better part of a mile before it descends gradually to the Creek. This descent is the most technical part of the trail, where there are small rocky drops, sometimes in series (aka "The Stairs"). Trailside exposure is minimal. Upon reaching the creek, there is the option to cross IF the creek is low or turn around for an out-and-back. There are a few options for crossing, if one decides to do so. Once having crossed the water (2x) head upstream on the bank trail for a couple hundred yards until a trail/ rough two-track becomes apparent. This will take you up the hill to Midgely Bridge, its parking lot, and other trail access. This is primarily a foot traffic trail, but bikers and equestrians are allowed. Equestrians be warned- this is not recommended for horses.
South trailhead is found heading up Schnebly Hill Road from 179 in Sedona. The TH parking lot is well marked and will be on your left as the asphalt turns to a dirt road. There is a pit toilet and there are trail maps. Red Rock Pass fee applies.
You will have to cross Oak Creek, which can be very high at times: DO NOT CROSS DURING HIGH WATER.
