Rocky, mostly exposed trail. It seems multiple ways of getting to the tank lakes exist, as there is a rocky ridgeline trail marked with cairns (that can be difficult to follow) and a dirt path visible slightly to the west. Several very nice alpine camp spots at the tank lakes. Descent toward Alpine Lakes High Trail is steep at times. Where this trail turns into the ALHT is very difficult to follow.
