This trail has multiple distinct sections with changing trail character and allowable uses. As mapped from north to south:
Bear Creek Trail to Bear Creek Rim
Non-motorized singletrack open to foot traffic, horses, and mountain bikes. Trail climbs steadily out of the Bear Creek drainage up to the southern rim of the canyon through a beautiful aspen forest. Often used to make a loop including Bear Creek Rim, Gold Run, and Bear Creek Trail, but also makes a good intermediate out and back. Can be a little overgrown. Blue technical difficulty.
Bear Creek Rim to southern rim of Fish Creek
Motorized singletrack open to foot traffic, horses, mountain bikes, e-bikes, and motorcycles. Flat and intermediate along the mesa then plunges steeply in and out of Lost Canyon Creek and Fish Creek. Black diamond technical difficulty through the canyon and uphill on any of the singletrack will involve hike-a-bike for most riders. A great figure-8 ride can be ridden using Lost Canyon Road and Aspen Loop for the majority of the climbing and descending singletrack both directions into the canyons.
South rim of Fish Creek to Chicken Creek Road
Motorized doubletrack open to foot traffic, horses, mountain bikes, e-bikes, motorcycles, and ATVs/OHVs under 50" wide. Mostly non-technical and not particularly interesting for mountain bikes, but portions will be included in most rides of the complete Aspen Loop.
Chicken Creek Road to Chicken Creek Trail
Motorized singletrack open to foot traffic, horses, mountain bikes, e-bikes, and motorcycles. Intermediate technical difficulty. Can be used to make a loop ride including Chicken Creek Road, Chicken Creek Trail, Chicken Creek Connector, and other trails in the Chicken Creek Area trail system.
