The Navy Monument Trail is within the Kalmiopsis Wilderness. This steep trail follows the old bulldozer path to the wreckage site of a U.S. Navy transport plane (PBY-5A) which crashed here in 1944. Parts of the plane can still be seen as well as the monument dedicated to the men that died in the crash. The site is located near the south fork of the Chetco River.
