Road Bike Route

The ascent to Passo Sella is one of the most coveted goals for cyclists from all over the world. In total, there are 23 hairpin bends to tackle up to the Dolomite pass, which is reached in 12 km with an 800 m elevation gain (average gradient of 6.9% with peaks up to 13%).

From the center of Canazei, take state road n. 48 (S.S. 4Cool . From the very first curves, a gradient of 5.8% is registered, reaching up to 7.6% at the third kilometer. You pass the Pian de Frataces area (Lupo Bianco) and turn left at the fork. The route alternates between wide, well-designed curves, flat sections, tight and close hairpin bends, long straights, and steep uphill stretches. The pass, dominated by a mighty stone castle, connects Val di Fassa to Val Gardena. It has been the Cima Coppi of the Giro d'Italia twice, i.e., the highest climb faced in an edition of the "pink race."
Return along the same route or the possibility to continue towards Val Gardena, following the routes of the Sellaronda Bike Day or the Marathona dles Dolomites.

Author's advice:

From the end of April to the end of June and from September to the end of October. In July and August, traffic is particularly intense on the Dolomite passes (cars, motorcycles, buses).

First refreshment points in Val di Fassa at Pian de Frataces, Pian de Schiavaneis, and Passo Sella.
