Ruffed Grouse Trail is a combination of shorter trails that went by different names, including: Poplar, White Pine, Rifle, and Guion Trails. This trail is double track between Hooker Creek Trail and Hickory Mountain Road and continues to narrow after the intersection with Rifle Trail as it heads down toward Sky Valley Road. The trail splits near the bottom. Bearing to the left heads down some rolling grade dips to the intersection of Sky Valley Road and Old CCC Road near the bottom of Rocky Ridge Trail. Proceeding straight at the fork downhill to Sky Valley Road across from Shoal Creek Trail
