Rabbit Peak is typically only visited after first climbing Villager Peak to the south. This trail is 3.7 miles long and can seem deceptively easy until it is actually experienced. It is rocky singletrack in a very harsh, desert environment. The climbs and descents are steep. This trail is not recommended for novice hikers. Hikers should have excellent stamina, plenty of outdoor experience, good navigation aids and strong self-sufficiency skills. This is a very remote area. Visitors will have to carry plenty of water and food to support themselves for at least an entire day. The nearest road (S22) is about 7 miles from the beginning of this trail - hikers should either plan an extra long day of hiking or expect to campout. This trail is not recommended during summer months - plan a visit between November and April to avoid the hottest days. Temperatures in this region can easily climb over 110F in the shade and this trail has zero shade.
Park at the trailhead by S22. Follow the trail along the desert floor and climb to Villager Peak (7 miles of hiking) then begin the trail to continue to Rabbit Peak.
