Awahsoose, also known as Sitting Bear, was a Lenape chief who lived in the Wawayanda area of New Jersey in the 1700s. He was a leader of the Munsee band of the Lenape. Awahsoose was a skilled warrior and a respected leader. He was known for his wisdom and his ability to mediate disputes.

Awahsoose was born in the Wawayanda area in the early 1700s. He was the son of a Lenape chief named Wapahas. Awahsoose grew up in a time of great change for the Lenape. The tribe was being forced to deal with the arrival of European settlers. Awahsoose was a strong advocate for peace between the Lenape and the settlers. He believed that the two cultures could coexist peacefully.

Awahsoose was a skilled warrior and a respected leader. He led the Lenape in a number of battles against the settlers. He was also a skilled diplomat and was able to negotiate a number of treaties with the settlers. Awahsoose was a wise and compassionate leader. He was known for his ability to mediate disputes and to bring people together.

Awahsoose died in the early 1800s. He is buried in the Wawayanda area. His legacy is one of peace and cooperation. He is remembered as a wise and compassionate leader who worked to build a better future for his people.
