As mapped, the trail starts from Burma, just east of parking. Gradual downhill to east with a few more challenging rocky sections. Westbound uphill leg follows old logging railroad grade though evergreens.
It crosses Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail 2x (Yellow blazes - no bikes). The segment west of the road starts with rocky section leading to a short climb to the plateau and connection to Towhee.
Due to the nature of the soil and the ridge top location, the Laurel Mountain Trail System should be avoided after it has recently rained. This a also a great place to cross country ski in the winter since the Laurel Ridge gets more snow than anywhere else Trails are closed to biking during snow cover.
