Supa Kanuka delivers the sense of isolation found in a true backcountry adventure. Tucked away in the park’s southwest reaches, this undulating gem immerses you in lush native forest with breathtaking views out to the South Coast and South Island.
The trail begins with a fast descent from the entry next to Leaping Lizard, contours around the hillside and undulates around to a junction with Leaping Lizard. There's a gentle climb before the trail descends back to the start of Aratihi.
The second half was built first by the Kennett Brothers in late 2017 and early 2018, with the first half built by Slack trails in 2025.
For riders keen to push themself or extend their usual ride, it offers and extended loop into the southwest of the park when combined with Upper Leaping Lizard and Aratihi. A shorter option is to turn onto Upper Leaping Lizard after Upswing and ride Supa Kanuka and Aratihi back to the summit.
From the summit, head down Upper Leaping Lizard. When riding up from the main entrance, cross the suspension bridge and then turn left onto Upper Leaping Lizard after Upswing.
