This middle section of the Wagonhammer Trail offers higher difficulty than the lower portions. There are several tough rock gardens and the trail is much wilder. It is mostly rideable up or down for those with good skills.
There is a large swampy area in the middle of this trail that does not dry out until late summer. Also, there are ruins of an old sawmill at a fork in the Wagonhammer drainage at the end of this track. To continue, the trail stays in the west fork until it joins Wagonhammer (Upper).
There is an old trail up the East Fork of Wagonhammer from the sawmill cabin ruins. It is not maintained and is overgrown ~1/2 mile up the drainage.
