Popular trail up to Wind Cave. Most of the trail is easy hiking, with about a quarter mile of steep hiking near the mouth of the cave. The cave opening is large, like over 100' tall, but quickly narrows. A stream flows from the cave, creating a scenic waterfall below the mouth of the cave. In the winter it turns into a huge column of ice. It is possible to explore the cave system, but it should only be done by experienced cavers. People have gotten lost in the caves, requiring rescue.
Although this trail is located in Wyoming you access it via Darby Canyon on the Driggs, Idaho side. Take East 3000 South from Idaho highway 33 -- the intersection is clearly marked. Go east until you hit a T intersection at South Stateline Road. Go right and follow the road up the canyon to the parking lot at the end of the road. The USFS closes the road up Darby canyon at the state line in the fall and reopens it after it dries out, typically in May.
