The Windy Gap trail leads from the Crystal Lake trailhead to Windy Gap, where it connects with the Pacific Crest Trail (closed to bikes) and the Mount Islip Trail. Along the way, the trail crosses the Deer Flat Road and the Hawkins Lookout Road, and intersects with the Big Cienega Trail. The grade is mostly moderate, with some steep sections and a few rocky wash-outs.

Good conditions, not much buckthorn yet. There is water available along the Hawkins Lookout Road just west it's junction with this trail.
