Windy Gap Trail (BMT) Details

The Windy Gap Trail starts at the Big Fat Gap Trailhead, reached by a nine mile drive on the FSR # 62 Big Fat Gap Road, accessed from US Route 129 north of the Robbinsville area. This road is gated, and closed to the public from January 1 through April 1 annually.

The Windy Gap Trail begins at the end of the parking area, and wanders through fairly new tree growth for the first 0.6 mile, gently heading downhill. At that point, the trail changes to a narrower path and descends a bit more steeply for the remaining 0.7 mile to the junction with the Nichols Cove Trail. There are several dramatic views of the Hangover from this trail, especially after leaves have fallen in late October
